This is a great shape sorter. I didn't have the previous one, but my daughter did have three other ones and I liked this one the best. You can play with the animals as well as sort the shapes they are standing in and the letters are also for sorting as well as practicing your abcs. It doesn't come with any talking or music-which I happen to really like. It has a little clock on the side and is great for imaginative play. We brought this toy with us on a 15 day vacation and my 18 month old daughter found many ways to play with it besides shape sorting. It is true that if the animals are in place, you can't open the barn door, but that just made her work on taking them out and putting them back in again. We really enjoy this toy.

 wow, lots of misinformation in these reviews. Let me just set the record straight and offer some advice on what do do when you first get your drone. Just FYI, I own 2 Drones.

1. You're anxious to fly. You dont want to read the manual. Fine. Just read the first steps and take it to an INDOOR ROOM preferably with carpeting and LOW CEILINGS. With the indoor hull on fly it there as much as you want. Bang it against the walls, smack it against the ceiling. You'll crash it like mad and it won't break. Despite what you read here, it's actually very very tough. You'll also fall in love with how cool it is.

2. Go the Parrot forums and read my long post about REALLY preparing to fly the Drone so you don't crash and break it. [...]

3. Don't take off the altitude limiter until you're ready. Everyone wants to go outside after a few flights and take the Drone up to see the squirrel's nest 100ft up in the tree (I did, and I trashed my first Drone). Don't do it! High Altitude = Broken Drone. It actually has an ultrasound altimeter that doesn't function above 6 meters. It was not designed nor built to fly at treetop level despite the Youtube videos that show people doing that. None of Parrot's promo videos show high-altitude flying.

4. It's designed to fly at around 4ft - 8ft off the ground and do AMAZING things at that level. What makes it so cool is that it is basically 2 completely separate flying experiences in one body. With the indoor protective hull on, it's a precision instrument able to negotiate (not too narrow) hallways and furniture and trees outdoors. When you get more experience take it to a wide-open field - soccer size - and put the outdoor hull on. Then it flies like an RC Airplane, fast and furious doing almost aerobatic moves. It takes a lot of practice with the iPhone, but it's awesome.

5. If you crash it, then call Parrot. Most likely they will recommend you send it back to them, and they will repair it (most likely) for free, at least the first crash. From NC it costs $9.80 to ship in the original carton. You do NOT have to pay for return shipping. Takes about 2 weeks.

6. I agree with the reviewers who claim Parrot spends way too much time marketing the Drone and showing people pulling it out of the box and suddenly flying outdoors with no training than they do teaching people how not to trash their Drone. It's NOT a toy, it's an expensive Radio-Controlled Quadracopter. It's actually a flying computer, but you have to read this post to understand that.

7. Finally it's not fair to Parrot for so many reviewers to have skipped the learning process, crashed and damaged their Drones, and then come on here to blame Parrot or trash the device. It's unquestionably one of the most sophisticated flying machines for consumers ever built. I've flown RC helicopters, and that's not what this is. This device has a computer built into it, it stabilizes itself like some futuristic military aircraft. You simply need to spend some time getting a feel for flying it. You need to enjoy it the way it was designed to fly and not pull it out of the box and try to copy what you saw some idiot on Youtube do.

Double Barrel Shooter

This is the best marshmallow shooter I've come across. The design makes it really easy to use and it really sprays marshmallow. And, you can really pump them out fast. I have seen a couple of the other marshmallow shooters, but I like this one the most. My students think it is very cool looking too. I found that mixing a tiny bit of corn starch in with the marshmallows keeps them from sticking and if I put them in a Tupperware they last a long time.

I just received my MN2 today and so far I am loving it. The first thing that needs to be understood about this watch is that it is NOT a smartphone, it is an extension of a smart phone. I like being notified via a vibration on my wrist of an incoming call or text message. This allows me to keep my phone on truly silent the majority of the time. I like that I can check the weather via the weather widget and control my music from my wrist. When I go hiking I can now keep my phone in my back pack and change through songs via my watch rather then keeping my phone in my pocket just so I can change songs time to time.

The only con right now is that there is limited apps. But that is to be expected because it is just launching in the US. Hopefully in the time to come we will see apps for Pandora.

Monopoly Electronic Banking

Hasbro continues to tweak with the Monopoly formula that has been a staple of American households for over 70 years. As in most cases, thoughts are mixed on this newest venture. Along with the standard Monopoly: Here and Now Edition board, comes an electronic banking device.

For those unfamiliar with the Monopoly: Here and Now Edition, it includes current buildings and locations. Not only that, but these properties come with drastically inflated prices. Gone are the days when you could buy a stretch of land for a few hundred dollars. This time you better be prepared to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also expect to see new Chance and Community Chest cards which includes modern day consequences such as identity theft. Ultimately the prices are the same since all of the values are inflated to the same degree.

The electronic banking device eliminates the need for paper money as it keeps track of your balance for you. You use debit cards to spend and receive money which surely makes things easier for those that are mathematically impaired. Unfortunately this aspect also makes it difficult to plan too far ahead since the only time you can check your balance is if you insert your card in the banking device. One other issue I had trouble adjusting to is the fact that on the banking device the spend side is on the right. Since there is no paper money, cleaning up is much easier though.

Overall, it's not bad. The banking device does make it significantly more welcoming and easier for those that are discouraged by the constant math skills that would normally be utilized. Cheating is still a possibility so it doesn't help players that pay little attention to what is happening on the board. It brings many of the elements of the computer renditions of Monopoly, while keeping the classic feel of still using a board, rolling of the dice, and manual movement. This is great for groups and families that would prefer not to spend the many extra hours of calculating payments that typically comes with a typical game of Monopoly!

Furby, Orange

I am an owner of one of the original Furbys so I pulled it out (a couple of them actually) to give a good comparison.

A quick crash course in Furby: Furbys are interactive robotic pets with various modes of interaction to which they respond, Furbys are loud and have no off switch (You have been warned!!!) but will go to sleep if you leave them alone for a bit. To wake them simply tilt them. Furbys begin to speak in "furbish" which is their own simplistic language. As time goes on they learn English one word at a time replacing their own furbish vocabulary. These take 4 double-A batteries which are not included and have 9 methods of interaction: Shake Furby, tilt Furby, feed Furby (with your finger or a free I-pod app), pet Furby, tickle Furby, talk to Furby, pull Furbys tail, introduce two furbys to each other, and play music for Furby.

First the original gen furbys had specific differences: stripe mane or poof with tail, pitch of voice, names, eye color, etc. The new gen Furbys come in different colors but there are no real differences between them... that is until playtime starts.

How you play with Furby will change it's complete personality including the tone of it's voice and it's LED eye shape. The personalities have a huge range from a "tough guy" Furby to a "Valley girl" type, and everything in between. The personality is triggered by how you treat them, for example you can overfeed Furby and I've found that when I do so he always changes into the tough guy mode soon after, if I pet my Furby a lot it changes to a sweet and cuddly personality, and so on. Changes are very obvious, it will wiggle, close it's eyes and emit a seizure-inducing series of flashing lights while exclaiming "Me change!". When it opens it's eyes it's a whole new Furby. It shifts personality very quickly at first but seems to shift less frequently as time goes on.

So how good is it? Well it's fun! It was fun then and is arguably better now.
Some of the improvements include the new LED eyes which are very expressive and highly visible, new animatronic animations that allow it to stretch scrunch or wobble (the original could tilt back and forth only), an expanded vocabulary of furbish terms (original furbish dictionaries will still work for most basic words as those have not changed), and new interactivity such as dancing to music, and working with the I-phone app.

The materials are also very soft and Furby is surprisingly sturdy unless you're really rough with her. I think she could stand up to most heavy play just remember that electronic toys DO NO LIKE WATER. Water = dead Furby.

I would recommend for most ages as it would be very useful as a "pet" for kids, or to help develop skills in young children for translating from other languages. Also makes a good desk toy for adults as long as you're okay with the level of noise. Makes a good gift for those who grew up with one of the originals, as it has that nice level of nostalgia about it. :) It's an A+ toy and not too pricey at retail (do some research on price before you buy)

My 8 year old son got this for christmas and we had a lot of fun with it! It definitely requires some adult supervision especially for the baking and the rock candy. My son had the most fun making the fizzy drinks and learning how to make soda. LeapFrog LeapsterGS tablet

Okay I thought I was doing SO great. I found the color pixter in a store and bought it for my 6 and 5 year old. I bought all the color cartridges also. I thought I was done xmas shopping. Then yesterday at the store. What do I see but the Leapster. I almost felt ill. I didn't know what to do. So I went home and opened the pixter and put my batteries in and started to play. But let me tell you that toy is in that box so not even houdini himself could get it out unless he has a screwdriver. Yeap you need a screwdriver. ugh. First off the directions aren't that great. I was playing and trying to figure out the tool bar. Kinda hard. Then when I was trying to put clothes on Barbie they would land on her head and I would try to bring them down and the kept adding the same dress over and over onto the screen. I'm a smart women and I had a real hard time with this stuff. Then I was trying to do other things and theres NO education value at all to this. Expect if you like to doodle and draw. So off I went to buy leapster. I was thrilled I opened the box. NO SCREWS. It came right out. it turned on and its having me count, do my abc's learning money (spongebob cartridge) I thought I was going to have a hard time choosing. No way leapster is my gift to the kids. They will love it. There are more cartridges in color, like Dora and a baseball one and how to write. Leap frog explains everything you need to do. It has an AC adaptor if you want to buy one. You can put headphones in. The screen has adjustment. Pixter does not and its too light. Hard to see the object. Okay so if you hawing and hemming let my goof be your blessing! Its great. I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old and 1 1/2 year old to play with at the park. With a light wind, I can launch it with my hand - no need to play out lots of line, run, or anything -- just hold it over my head and let go. I have flown it up to the limit of the provided string -- I think it's about 300', but it's most fun to fly it lower where the kids can see it better. At really low altitudes it can drop quickly when the wind changes, but you can pull on the string or run to keep it up. If I fly it up to about 80' or more where it's more stable, my 2 1/2 year old can hold it. If I pull it in to about 10', I can run around the park with it flying just overhead, buzzing the toddlers with the tail. It doesn't handle violent wind and gusts well, but it's not intended for that. It's so easy it might get boring for someone capable of handling multi-string stunt kites, but for any Charlie Brown, this is the right kite. There are other kites that fly easily, but these Easy Flyers are also supposed to have lighter line pull, making it less likely to pull or jerk the string out of a child's hand. Still, for under 5 year olds I do most of the flying. Therefore I'm going to try some helium balloons on the kite string instead. I'm also keen to try a KongMing lantern. Our area is popular for hot air ballooning and maybe when the kids are older we could build an RC balloon. A kite like this can get a lot of things started. Enjoy.

LEGO Super Heroes Batwing Battle Over Gotham City

This was a reward for doing well in school and boy, did it ever go together quickly! It's an easy build - about 20 minutes for an expereinced Lego master builder, probably around 40 for a beginner. This is a very fun set - the propeller actually works on the flying machines and they're pretty decked out inside too. It's pretty fun though seeing the Joker try to outwit Batman in this plane. He stands up to whatever Batman throws at him too - all the Batarangs, pieces, etc., and they just stay together for hours of playtime. Although this new series is a repeat of the last one, they're still great and it is a great opportunity to get the sets that you missed the last time. I bought this just for the heck of it, but it's one of my favorites! It has six sound bytes: two Cybermen, two Dalek, one K9, and one TARDIS. It's a bit big for a keychain fob, but the sound packs a punch - at least, mine does (it's really loud!). The TARDIS sound effect (materialization/dematerialization) is simply fab and has become my own personal "Calgon, take me away!" bit.
